Four local volunteer fire departments are now better prepared in the event of an emergency involving water. Ball Play, Coates Bend, Tidmore Bend, and Hokes Bluff Fire Departments have all received Rescue One Connector Boats. These boats add to the current fleet owned by the City of Gadsden Fire and Rescue, Southside Fire and Rainbow City Fire. Gadsden and Etowah County EMA Operations and Planning Specialist Josh Tanner tells us with more people getting in the water, this equipment is a necessity. This resource project was cost shared by Commissioner Johnny Grant, Commissioner Carolyn Holt Parker, Sheriff Todd Entrekin and the Gadsden-Etowah County EMA. Training will be provided through RescueONE Connector Boats. The boats will also be available to deploy to other areas throughout the county when water search and rescue or recovery is needed.
