The city of Anniston is preparing for its next step in the West Anniston Revitalization Project. The last tenant of Cooper Homes moved out in December, and now, the city is preparing to tear down the housing community and look for a place to rebuild it. Anniston Housing Authority Executive Director Sonny McMahand says the demolition will not begin for several more months. McMahand also says he and his team have an estimate of what it might cost to tear down the homes, but he did not want to release those numbers. However, he did tell us the project is coming up for bid soon. The plan also includes renovations for existing homes in west Anniston, where several of Cooper Homes’ former tenants moved to.
