Students Experience a Week With Law Enforcement

Thursday, June 15, 2017

A group of students is experiencing a week on the job with law enforcement officers. Seniors from high schools in Etowah County are taking a week out of their summer vacation to learn leadership skills with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office. Each day, students get to see how a different part of the Sheriff’s Office operates. Today, the seniors went to the shooting range. Southside High School senior John Mark Weaver says he now has a new appreciation for law enforcement. The Leadership Academy began on Sunday. As an added bonus, Jacksonville State University is partnering with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office to award three college credit hours to students who successfully complete the week-long event. A graduation ceremony will be held at the Pitman Theater on Thursday to celebrate the students' achievements.
