The Jacksonville Police Department is training for what they hope will never happen. Thanks for joining us I’m Carl Brady. Today, officers took part in a simulated active shooter drill. The training is designed to prepare officers for what to do and how to handle various active shooter scenarios. Investigator Corporal Jason Campbell says the training does a good job at replicating the stress of such a situation. The drills consisted of using simulated rounds and required officers to take down a shooter and protect any victims. Assistant Chief Bill Wineman says that it’s important to stay prepared for such an event. Wineman also says the training was completed in just one day, and included time at the shooting range. The active shooter drills keep officers prepared to handle any dangerous and potentially fatal situation that may arise.
