New traffic lights are going up on highway 21 in Jacksonville. The City of Jacksonville is replacing all of the signals on the highway with newer lights that can help control traffic congestion. According to Jacksonville Mayor Johnny Smith, the cameras on top of the new lights are not for writing tickets. Instead, the cameras will monitor traffic conditions along the highway, and change the lights accordingly. Not only will the lights help traffic in the city, Smith says they’ll also help the city look better. Smith says the lights should be up and running before Jacksonville State University's fall semester begins.
