Republican lawmakers are showing support for Attorney General Jeff Sessions after President Trump has been publicly criticizing him. In a tweet Wednesday night, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley said there will not be a vote for a new Attorney General. Sessions, a former Alabama senator, was one of the first Republicans to endorse Trump during his campaign. Now, the president claims Sessions is taking a quote “very weak” position on crimes that Trump has accused Hillary Clinton of committing. South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham believes the president’s actions may have consequences within the Republican party, and he challenges the president to find out. Sessions is currently in El Salvador to discuss gang activity in the country. He told Associated Press reporters today that he will continue to serve as the Attorney General as long as the president wants him to.
