The Gadsden-Etowah Patriots Association brings home an icon of the Vietnam war. Thanks for joining us, I’m Carl Brady. The association traveled across the country to Washington state in order to bring a Huey Helicopter to Gadsden. The association says it will place the helicopter on display by the Vietnam Veteran's Monument at Noccalula Falls. Patriot’s Association Member Troy Word says the Huey holds a special place in the memories of veterans. The US military used the Huey helicopter extensively during the Vietnam war for troop transport, air and ground assault, and medical transport. The Association’s Huey will remain in storage at the Northeast Alabama Regional Airport in Gadsden until it is ready to be placed on a pedestal at the Veteran’s Monument.
