Goodyear and the United Steelworkers have avoided a strike by reaching a tentative agreement. The tire company says it agreed to a new five year contract that covers nearly 7,000 workers at five plants in the U-S, including the one in Gadsden. The agreement comes after the USW authorized a strike if negotiations fell through. The agreement must now be ratified by the union. The Goodyear plant in Gadsden employs more than 1,500 people.
