Thanks to a membership increase, the Calhoun County YMCA is undergoing renovations to update and repair its aging building. A three percent increase in membership has helped to increase funds enough for the organization to catch up on deferred maintenance without taking out a loan. Work is currently underway on a new floor for the gym, which also needed a new roof. President and CEO of the Calhoun County YMCA Shane Ruffin says he’s excited about changes to the front lobby. Ruffin says the lobby has been largely unchanged since it opened in 1952, and will have a completely new floor plan. Other improvements include: all new flooring in the hallways, new floor tiles and a new roof for the yoga room, new LED lighting for the parking lot, and more. Ruffin says the renovations are on track to be completed by the end of September.
