The Department of Homeland Security awards more than nine hundred thousand dollars in grant money for two local fire departments. DHS is giving the Piedmont Fire Department more than $642,000 and giving Linville Fire more than $285,000. Congressman Mike Rogers, who serves on the Committee on Homeland Security, says the grant is part of the 2016 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, a federal program that supports first responders across the nation. He says the grant for Lineville will help the fire department buy a new firefighting vehicle.
