Second Chance Speaks Out After Violence

Thursday, August 31, 2017

After a domestic dispute turned deadly in Jacksonville yesterday, Second Chance Director Susan Shipman calls for tougher laws to stop the violence. Police say Larry Miller shot and killed his ex-wife, Judy Miller. She was Shipman’s sister-in-law, and Shipman say Larry Miller had made multiple threats on the woman’s life and the lives of workers at programs like Second Chance. Second Chance is a program that offers assistance and emergency shelter to victims of domestic violence. Shipman says the only way to stop such violence is by passing tougher laws against abusers. Yesterday’s domestic incident ended when police shot Larry Miller. He later died from his wounds. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Oxford Police Department are leading the investigation.
