State Parks Offer Shelter from Irma

Many state parks across Alabama are offering free shelter and campgrounds to evacuees of Irma, but now, some people are evacuating from some parks. Many evacuees stopped at Cheaha State Park, where the indoor accommodations are now full. As Irma reached East Alabama, many of the people staying in the campgrounds there evacuated from the park, where gusts of up to 70 miles per hour are expected. Park Naturalist Mandy Pearson says the park is prepared for the storm, and that the people staying inside the hotels and cabins should be safe. The park also has extra fuel for generators in case the power goes out.
