Alabama Attorney General Speaks at JSU

A special guest talks to a group about the harmful effects of opioids. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall spoke to JSU students and staff at the Houston Cole Library about the effects of opioids. Nationally, 147 people die of an opioid overdose each day. Since the early 1990s, prescribing rates for opioids in the US have more than tripled. The Attorney General says this is a problem for many people. Marshall also says he feels more progress could be made by arresting doctors who abuse their prescribing power rather than addicts who would be better suited to treatment programs. CVS Pharmacy is making changes by limiting some opioid prescriptions to a seven-day supply.
