Oxford Fire Department Receives New Storm Shelters

Friday, September 29, 2017

When dangerous weather approaches, the people of Oxford now have somewhere to go. The Oxford Fire Department received two storm units from the Wyoming-based B-safe Shelters. Each shelter can fit at least 32 people inside, and includes LED light strips that are powered by a battery charged by solar panels. Oxford fire Chief Gary Sparks says they would like to add more storm shelters throughout the city. Chief Sparks says the bottoms of both shelters will have to be buried to prevent air from getting underneath them in case of a severe storm.
