First responders and local hospitals prepare for the worst with a disaster exercise drill. Anniston EMS, Oxford EMS, the Calhoun County Health Department, and Jacksonville firefighters along with others participated in the annual training event. The Health Care and Hospital Full Scale Exercise gives first responders different disaster scenarios. Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency Public Information Officer Myles Chamblee explains why they have this training event each year. The first responders were tasked with handling a simulated train wreck. To simulate the disaster EMA teamed up with Jacksonville State University nursing department and Oxford High School. JSU Nursing Instructor Kim Craven says this is a great way for the students to get hands-on experience. Craven also says the nursing students will be graduating in two semesters and will use the information they learned at the training in real life.
