A Vice Principal is indicted and faces charges in connection to child abuse. The child abuse indictment says that Etowah Middle School Vice Principal Nathan Ayers tortured, willfully abused, cruelly beat, or otherwise willfully maltreated a child under the age of 18 by striking him on the buttocks with a wooden paddle causing deep tissue bruising. An investigation began in September of last year and Ayers was arrested in December. Defense attorney Shaun Malone says Ayers is not guilty of any crime and that he followed the local Board of Education policy, going above and beyond the written requirements set forth regarding any corporal punishment. An arraignment on the charges is scheduled for November 9th.
