President Donald Trump awards a Huntsville veteran with the Medal of Honor for his acts of heroism during the Vietnam War. Trump gave the nation’s highest honor to retired Army Captain Gary Rose.
Rose served as a medic with the Fifth Special Forces Group in September 1970. He risked his life numerous times to help others during combat, even after suffering a severe foot-wound. The White House says Rose used a stick as a crutch in order to continue to treat the wounded while under heavy enemy fire.
Rose is originally from upstate New York, and moved to Huntsville in 2005. He is the second person to receive the Medal of Honor from President Trump.
