CALCO Officials Participate in Red Ribbon Week with National Drug Take Back Day


Prescription drug abuse is on the rise and local County Commission members are reminding residents of an upcoming event to get rid of unused medications. During their regularly scheduled meeting, Calhoun County Commission members took the time to discuss this weekend's National Take Back Initiative.

This Saturday, in counties throught east Alabama, Sheriff’s Offices will be holding a “Take Back Initiative”. People can go to dedicated locations and turn in prescription drugs to be destroyed. Anniston's Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention Executive Director Seyram Selase says the event isn’t just one day a year.

In Calhoun County, you can go to the Walgreens on Quintard Avenue from 10am to 2pm, and in Etowah County at the East Gadsden Wal-Mart and the County Courthouse parking lot.
