People gather to celebrate the renovation of a historic downtown area. Main Street Oxford and the City of Oxford held a groundbreaking ceremony to begin the Downtown Streetscape Project. Over the next few months, Historic Downtown Oxford will be transformed into an inviting, pedestrian friendly destination.
One of the things people can look forward to is power lines being moved underground. Historic Main Street Oxford Program Director Hunter Gentry says they plan to fix a few traffic problems along the way.
Construction began Friday, cutting the concrete preparing it for a new look. The City of Oxford has invested more than $300,000 dollars. Mayor Alton Craft says it’s been a long time coming.
The project will last 150 work days, not including holidays or weekends. Mayor Craft says that during the time of construction, they are encouraging people to still come out and do their holiday shopping.
