An organization that focuses on helping underprivileged families is meeting to discuss some potential changes headed to Alabama. Alabama Arise and the Southern Poverty Law Center held a meeting at Jacksonville State's Houston Cole Library.
The topic focused on criminal justice debt practices. Members and citizens came to talk about public transportation, tax reform, state budgets and other issues. Arise Board Vice President Dr. Nancy Francisco Stewart explains some of the issues and why people need to be aware.
Dr. Francisco Stewart tells us the goals and how Arise works to help lower-income families in need. She says the board is made up of 50% low-income groups. She says the organization will listen to anyone about any problem they are facing. Their long-term goals are to see people have a fair chance at a better life.
