Heading into this high school basketball season, there was no question as to who the top prospect was in East Alabama. That honor has held by Sacred Heart’s Diante Wood for some time now. The only question left was where was the star senior going to play next season. He answered that question on Wednesday by committing to Alabama.

Wood made it official at the school Wednesday morning by signing his National Letter of Intent with the Tide. The 6'5" shooting guard is a four-star prospect according to ESPN and a three-star in the 24/7 Sports ratings. He also ranks as a top five player in the state. Diante ultimately choose the Tide over Auburn, South Florida and Colorado State.
Wood averaged 18.6 points per game as a junior and was named the ASWA Class 1A Player of the Year. He also makes history becoming the first major-college basketball signee from Calhoun County in 20 years. The last was Oxford’s Jay Heard who signed with Auburn in 1997.
Now with recruiting officially over, Wood can concentrate on his senior season and gunning for Sacred Heart's fourth straight Class 1A title. The Cardinals open the season Monday night against Faith Christian.
