Loud "Boom" Heard Across Many Northern Counties in AL

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

No one knows what it was, but a lot of people heard it, and felt it. People in Birmingham, Oxford, Anniston, Arab, and other cities and counties report hearing a loud boom this afternoon.

The U.S. Geological Survey shows no sign of an earthquake.

Authorities says they’ve received no calls about smoke or fire. Some agencies say it was possibly a meteor entering the atmosphere, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.

The boom happened shortly before 2:00 this afternoon. We will have more information as it becomes available.
