Alabama’s overall high school graduation rate has dropped compared to the rest of the country. The graduation rate for the class of 2016 is 87.1 percent, which puts Alabama 16th in the country. This is a drop from 2015, when the state was ranked third.
The graduation rate for the country, as a whole, for the class of 2016 hit a record high with 84.1 percent, increasing from 83.2 percent in 2015. The federal graduation rate is calculated as the percentage of students who graduate four years after starting high school as a ninth grader.
