A local funeral home adds a new staff member, and his only job is to provide love and comfort to grieving families. Quimby is a 5-month old Australian Labradoodle who is the newest member of the staff of the K.L. Brown Funeral Homes in Anniston and Jacksonville.
The new puppy was selected to be a therapy dog at just 8-weeks old, and earned his official certification with specialized training at Ultimate Canine in Indiana. Quimby’s Trainer, Erica Whetstone, says Quimby has a great temperment and is eager to serve.
K.L. Brown owners Craig and Tonia Bodiford say they had seen the work of therapy dogs in other funeral homes and decided that they should add a four-legged member to their staff. The Bodifords say that they encounter families during one of the most sad and hurtful times in their lives, so they hope that having Quimby around will help families who are grieving.
When Quimby is off duty, he lives at home with the Bodifords and lives the life of a normal 5-month old puppy who likes to run and play with his toys. Quimby is the first therapy dog to work at a funeral home in the East Alabama area.
