Escaped Inmate Calls Birmingham TV Station Claiming Innocence

A man claiming to be the focus of a nationwide manhunt calls a Birmingham TV station making some strong arguments. The man is claiming to be Saint Clair County Correctional Facility escaped inmate Antwone Wilson.

Wilson escaped from the correctional facility Monday morning, along with Ronald King, who was captured by authorities Tuesday. Theman, claiming to be Wilson, called the Birmingham station from a restricted number and said he broke out of prison because he’s innocent of the robbery conviction that sent him to prison for life without the possibility of parole.

During the conversation, Wilson first said he was in California, then Cuba, and would not say how he escaped. The Alabama Department of Corrections and U.S. Marshal service were notified of the call. The agencies are continuing to search for Wilson and say he should be considered dangerous.
