Lawsuit Against Opioid Distributions

Wednesday, December 20, 2017

City officials agree to join a cross-jurisdictional lawsuit against opioid distributors. During Monday’s city council meeting members voted to enter a contract with Birmingham attorney Annesley DeGaris. The lawsuit would help the city of Jacksonville and others to recover money that was spent on prescription opioid abuse.

Council member Jimmy Harrell says it’s a challenging lawsuit, but is worth it if it reduces opioid abuse. DeGaris says he expects to file the lawsuit by the end of the year.
