Christmas is only a week away, and many people are traveling to be with family and friends. But some may not get there in time. A power outage yesterday at the Hartsfield -Jackson International Airport in Atlanta caused hundreds of flights to be cancelled. Many travelers arrived this morning, only to be turned away.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says the outage was caused by a fire in a Georgia Power underground electrical facility, which also caused the airport’s backup power system to fail. Georgia Power CEO, Paul Bowers says they are investigating the cause of the fire. The airport encourages travelers to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
