Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Christmas in Dixie, and many other popular Christmas songs all have one thing in common- they were written by Alabamians.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas was written by Hugh Martin in 1944 and sung by Judy Garland in ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’. The original lyrics of the memorable Christmas song nearly caused it to be cut from the movie. The song’s original lyrics encouraged people to Have a merry Christmas since it may be your last.
The lyrics were eventually changed to the song we hear on the radio today. Other popular Christmas songs were written by the country group Alabama like, ‘Angels Among us’ and ‘Christmas in Dixie’. The song was released as a single in 1982 and was included on their 1985 Christmas album.
