Japanese automakers Toyota and Mazda announce plans to build a 1.6 billion dollar plant in Alabama. The facility is estimated to bring 4,000 jobs along with it. Governor Kay Ivey says Alabama is truly honored to have been chosen for this project.
The plant is expected to start building cars in 2021, and will eventually produce 300,00 vehicles per year. Governor Ivey says employees will be paid an average annual salary of $50,000. Toyota will use the plant to build its best-selling compact car, the Corolla, while Mazda will use it to build a new crossover vehicle.
The plant will be located in the Huntsville area.
