A man facing murder charges appears for a preliminary hearing. Cherokee County investigators say 19 year-old Matthew Gonzalez killed Matthew Smith on December 2nd at a home on County Road 326 in Piedmont.

Deputies responded to the home and found Smith in the living room suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. One of Smith’s dogs was also found shot to death on the living room couch and another shot and injured in the driveway.

At the preliminary hearing this morning, several law enforcement officers testified about what they saw that night. Judge Wes Mobley ruled that Gonzalez’s case would go to the grand jury.
