Hospitals Getting Near Capacity Due to Flu Outbreak

Saturday, January 13, 2018

Alabama is under a public health emergency declaration due to an influenza outbreak. The acting state health officer, Scott Harris, says hospitals in nearly one-third of Alabama’s counties are at 90% of their patient capacity and some are full.

UAB Hospital is rescheduling all non-emergency operations to help free up bed space. They are also asking visitors to stay away to prevent spreading the flu. Governor Kay Ivey has issued a state of health emergency, which gives healthcare providers some leeway in following their care plans.
