The Superintendent of Attalla City Schools announces that he will retire at the end of the school year. David Bowman made the announcement during last week’s board of education meeting.
Bowman has served as superintendent for the past seven years, but has a total of 37 years invested in education. He served as a coach, athletic director, and principal before becoming superintendent. Bowman says he will miss the people the most.
Bowman says once he is retired he has no interest in being lazy and that he looks forward to trying something new.
The board hopes to call for applications and start interviewing applicants as early as February - with the goal of naming a new superintendent in March. Bowman will continue as superintendent until June to allow plenty of time for a smooth transition.
