Funding for Children's Health Care Program Continues

Alabama officials are praising the federal budget deal that continues funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The compromise, approved Monday, provides a six-year renewal of the subsidized insurance program for children in low-income families.

The program provides health care for 150,000 Alabama children. U.S. Senator Doug Jones says he is pleased the program will continue for six more years, but says it deserves permanent funding.

Beginning in the year 2020, the state will have to pick up some of the costs as an enhanced matching rate expires.
