One university’s police department is taking a coffee break to get to know the students a little better. Jacksonville State University Police Department held a “Coffee with a Cop” event in Merrill Hall. Students were invited to come, have a cup of coffee, a few sweet treats and get to know the university officers a little better.
JSU Police Communications Supervisor Jason Sumner says they are focusing on their social media pages. The JSU Police Department holds this event every few months. Patrol Operations Chief Brian Mann says the event is a way to let students know police are on their side.
Several students took advantage of the event to get to know the officers. Juniors Morgan Jones and Emma Boudreaux say social media is an appealing way to reach out to students. The next “Coffee with a Cop” is scheduled for March.
Sumner says they will focus on informing students about staying safe during spring break.
