A purchase by a forensics center will cut down on time when it comes to recovering firearms. Jacksonville State University’s Center for Applied Forensics bought a Savage Range Systems Forensic Buddy.
The buddy catches cartridge casings from a pistol while it is being fired. Center of Applied Forensics Director Mark Hopwood tells us the Buddy could help close a case and put criminals away sooner. Hopwood says if the information comes back that the firearm is connected to another crime agency will be notified within 24 hours.
Anniston Police Sergeant Kyle Price says officers recover firearms regularly during traffic stops, while making arrests or at crime scenes.
