Woman Receives Life in Prison for 2014 Murder

Saturday, February 10, 2018

A woman pleads guilty to the involvement of a 2014 murder. Stephanie Underwood was initially charged with capital murder of David Hayes. His body was found in early 2015 in a shallow grave off Buck Ridge Road on Pine Mountain in Blount County. In exchange for pleading guilty and receiving life in prison Underwood agreed to testify against her co-defendants, Matthew Thrasher and Christopher Jones.

Thrasher and Underwood were arrested in Wisconsin on January 13, 2015 after authorities say they were shoplifting vodka and energy drinks. Upon further investigation police learned the car the two were in was stolen and had human blood inside.

The home where Hayes was killed in belonged to Jones. A trial date has not been set yet.
