Jacksonville Upgrading Traffic Safety

City leaders make some traffic safety upgrades in an attempt to keep students safe. Jacksonville City Council members decided to add safety lights and signs to crosswalks in order to prevent another death.

The decision comes after a Jacksonville State University student died after being struck by a truck on highway 204 next to the campus. Jacksonville City Councilman Jimmy Harrell explains what actions will be taken.

Harrell says that even though Alabama law says a vehicle has to stop for a person crossing the road, it is still important for the pedestrian to be cautious when crossing the street. The city council must have Alabama Department of Transportation’s approval and support before any changes or upgrades can be made.
