A police chase ends in death for one. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Corporal Jimmy Harrell says Cleburne County Sheriff’s Officers began pursuing a car driven by Chancey Conway of Detroit, Michigan and Mosses McElroy as the passenger on U.S. Highway 78 in Fruithurst.
The chase continued through Heflin and into Calhoun County on Alabama Highway 9. A Piedmont Police Officer attempted to spike the car near the mile marker 237. Conway swerved into the southbound lane, in an attempt to avoid the spikes in the road. He lost control of the car veering off the roadway and hit several trees.
Both Conway and McElroy were airlifted to WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, Georgia. McElroy was pronounced dead by hospital personnel.
Alabama State Troopers are conducting the investigation as a Traffic Homicide.
