The search for the last American slave ship continues. Archaeologists determined over the weekend that the shipwreck found in Baldwin County is not the Clotilda, the last known ship to bring enslaved Africans to the United States.
The Alabama Historical Commission, along with several other organizations and experts traveled to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta to investigate the remains of a ship discovered in January. Experts determined that the ship was too large to be the Clotilda.
AHC Executive Director Lisa Jones is still hopeful the Clotilda will be found in the same area.
