Alabama House Judiciary Committee Approved Execution by Nitrogen Hypoxia Bill
Alabama is one step closer to allowing death row inmates to be executed with nitrogen gas. The House Judiciary Committee approved the bill. The bill would allow execution by nitrogen hypoxia if lethal injection drugs are unavailable or ruled unconstitutional.
Some believe nitrogen gas is a more humane way of execution. The Death Penalty Information Center says two states have already voted to conditionally authorize the use of nitrogen gas as a back-up method of execution, but it has never been used.
The bill now moves to the full House of Representatives for a floor vote.
