A local college campus hosts an exhibit featuring photographs and paintings of the Holocaust. The traveling exhibit, on loan from the Birmingham Holocaust Education Center, is on display at the Gadsden State Community College’s Wallace Drive Campus.
The exhibit is entitled, “Darkness into Life: Alabama Holocaust Survivors through Photography and Art.” The exhibit was created by photographer Becky Seitel and artist Mitzi Levin. The exhibit offers a glimpse into the private memoirs of 20 Alabama Holocaust survivors.
Second-generation Holocaust survivor Esther Gerson Levy spoke about her mother’s experiences. Levy says her mother had survivors guilt and wouldn’t talk about the Holocaust very often.
The exhibit is open to everyone and will be at the Wallace Drive Campus until April 4th. It can be seen from 8am until 5pm Monday through Thursday.
