Alabama Senate Committee Approved Rosa Parks Day

Alabama inches closer to setting a day aside to honor civil rights icon Rosa Parks. An Alabama Senate committee approved legislation to name December 1st as Rosa Parks Day.

Montgomery Police arrested Parks on December 1st, 1955 for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man. Her arrest sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a key event in the civil rights movement. The bill now moves to the full Senate.
