Alabama Working to Restore Power in East Alabama

Last nights storms downed more than 300 power poles and as of this afternoon, Alabama Power reported more than 7,800 people in East Alabama without power. The utility company says it has around 1,600 workers on scene to help restore service as soon as possible. The number of people without power peaked last night at 22,000 or so. Much of Jacksonville is still without power.

Mayor Johnny Smith says it may be days before the city has full power again. Alabama Power reminds everyone to stay away from any downed power lines. If you come across one, they ask that you let them know at their website or by calling their 800 number.
