The city of Jacksonville suffered major damage in Monday's storms, but the mayor is reassuring residents that the city is recovering. Jacksonville Mayor Johnny Smith held a press conference to give the people of Jacksonville some much needed information about the clean up effort.
Mayor Smith emphasized a mandatory curfew beginning at 7:30pm each night in the areas north of Mountain Street and says even if it looks like law enforcement is overwhelmed, officers are still protecting life and property.
Mayor Smith also assures residents that the city's water is clean and safe. For those looking to help, volunteers may work throughout the city from 7am until 5pm. All volunteers must be at least 19 years old and should sign-in at the Jacksonville Community Center.
