St. Clair County authorities identify the pilot who went missing last week. 52-year-old, Bret Liestyna of Los Angeles, California and his plane were found in St. Clair County near Canoe Creek Friday night. Civil Air Patrol First Lieutenant Cindy Collette says Liestyna was in the area on business, but he had become a pilot in order to transport rescue dogs from a shelter.
Liestyna left the Northeast Regional Airport in Gadsden Wednesday around noon. He made contact with the Birmingham Shuttlesworth Airport, but lost contact shortly after take-off.
