Annual Special Olympics Event at Titan Stadium

Saturday, April 7, 2018

Hundreds of athletes gather at Titan Stadium in Gadsden to show off their strength and perseverance. The Special Olympics track and field events took place today at Gadsden City High School, where more than three hundred athletes competed in events such as the hundred meter dash, softball throwing, and more. Event coordinator Betty Copeland says watching the event grow over the years has been special for her and the athletes.

The competition began with the running of the torch, and the Etowah County Sheriff’s office was on hand to deliver the flame to the athletes. Sheriff Todd Entrekin says helping with the Special Olympics has always been a big part of what his office does for the community. The event was made possible with the help of hard-working volunteers, including many Gadsden City High School students.
