Governor Kay Ivey makes an official request for FEMA assistance. The governor made the request Thursday after damage assessments from the March 19th tornados revealed that governments have incurred millions of dollars in cost for debris removal and infrastructure damage. The FEMA threshold for assistance is set at $7 Million, a total for March 19th has not yet been released.
The request covers Calhoun, Cullman, Etowah and St. Clair county storm damage and seeks financial or direct assistance for individuals and families whose losses were not covered by insurance. The governor is also asking for assistance from the Small Business Administration that will give homeowners, renters, and business owners access to low-interest disaster loans.
