The Alabama Department of Revenue is giving people affected by the March 19th tornado in these counties until June 18th to file their taxes. The 2 month extension comes after many people in the 27 counties suffered severe storm damage. Revenue Commissioner Vernon Barnett says as the people affected by the hardships recover from the challenges caused by the storms, the Department is offering this assistance to help ease some of the burden.
Taxpayers seeking the extension should write “Severe Weather Relief- 2018” in red ink on any state paper return or report being filed. Electronic filers should contact ADOR for guidance. Others outside the areas in the state of emergency declaration who also have weather-related issues are asked to contact the department to request a waiver.
