A world renowned youth evangelist from Southside is facing additional sex offense charges involving minors. Etowah County Sheriff’s Investigators say Acton Bowen is charged with two counts of second-degree sodomy, two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes, and three counts of second-degree sexual abuse.
Bowen was arrested last week on similar charges by Hoover police. Bowen is accused of sexually abusing four minors between the ages of 12 and 17 over several years. Many of the victims are now adults who are just now reporting these crimes. Bowen is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.
Bowen is known around the world for his ministry. He is a New York Times Best-Selling author and served as a chaplain in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
