An organization that helps seniors gets some help in return. In 2016, The Council on Aging in Etowah County received a van from Honda through a grant to help with their Senior Transportation Program. The program gives local seniors a reliable way to get to a doctor’s appointment that may not otherwise be able to.

In August of last year, the Council took a client to the Kirklin Clinic While there, the parking garage caught fire, destroying the van. The Council on Aging re-applied for the Honda grant and received a 2015 Honda Odyssey.  The Council of Aging Executive Director Jenifer Grace says the van is an essential part of the program. The Council on Aging went 9 months without a way to transport people.

Grace says one man had to move with his family to Florida to be able to have a reliable source take him to appointments. Honda Associates delivered the van to the Council on Aging office on last Friday.
